Short biography and Professional activities

Canfei He earned his Ph.D. degree in geography from Arizona State University in 2001, and was a visiting assistant professor at the University of Memphis, Tennessee during 2001-2003. In August 2003, he returned to China as an associate professor in Peking University, and was promoted to full professor in 2009. Dr. He is now the dean of the college of urban and environmental sciences and the deputy director of the Peking University–Lincoln Institute Center for Urban Development and Land Policy. He is the associate editor of two Chinese journals including World Regional Geography and Geographical Research and sits on the editoral board of several Chinese journals, including International Urban Planning, Economic Geography and Progress of Geographical Science and also some international journals, including Eurasian Geography and Economics, Growth and Change, and Area Development and Policy. He is a section editor in charge of Industrial Geography for the Wiley-AAG International Encyclopedia of Geography and the editor for industrial geography in Encyclopedia of China (Geography). He is also the lead guest editor of special issues for Growth and Change (2016), Geojournal(2016), and Small Business Economics (Upcoming). He served in the organzing committee of the fourth global conference on economic geography which was held in Oxford University in 2015 and is a member of RSA Research Committee.

Research achievements

Dr. He’s research interests include multinational corporations, industrial geography and urban and regional development in China. The World Bank invited him to write a background paper on industrial agglomeration in China for the World Development Report 2009: Reshaping Global Economic Geography. Dr. He has authored or co-authored 12 academic books and about 70 papers in international journals including Journal of Economic Geography, Regional Studies, Paper in Regional Science, Geoforum, Environment and Planing C, GeoJournal, Annals of Association of American Geographers, Urban Studies, Urban Geography, Annals of Regional Science, Applied Geography, Growth and Change, International Migration Review. His works have been awarded by Chinese Society of Geography, Regional Science Association of China, and Ministry of Education in China. He was granted the Outstanding Young Scientist Award by National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2014 and was entitled the Cheung Kong professorship in 2016 by the Ministry of Education in China. He was listed by Elsevier as one of the most cited researchers in mainland China (social sciences), for three consecutive years (2015-2017).

Dr. Canfei He has actively participated IACP annual conference by organizing sessions and presenting scholarly papers on behalf of Peking University-Lincoln Institute Center for Urban Development and Land Policy.
