Youqin Huang – IACP Faculty Highlights

Youqin Huang Youqin Huang is an Associate Professor of Geography and Planning, Executive Director of the Confucius Institute for China’s Culture and Economy, and a Research Associate of the Center for Social and Demographic Analysis at University at Albany, State University of New York (SUNY). She received her BS in geography from Peking University in 1992, her M.A. and Ph.D. in Geography from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1997 and 2001 respectively.

Her research has focused on housing, migration/mobility, urbanization in the U.S. and China. Recently she has focused on low-income housing in China. She has published many papers in leading journals in geography, urban studies, housing, and China, and she co-authored several books, including Housing Inequality in Chinese Cities (Routledge, 2014) (see http://www.albany.edu/~yhuang for more publications).

Since 2001, she has served as a Standing Committee member of Urban China Research Network (UCRN) to promote urban China research. She has been a member of Board of Editors for Journal of Architectural and Planning Research since 2004. She also served as the Chair and Vice Chair of China Geography Specialty Group (CGSG) of Association of American Geographers (AAG) (2005-2007). Currently she serves as an Executive Board Members of the Research Committee on Housing and Building Environment (RC 43) of International Sociological Association, a Standing Board member of Research Grants Council of University Grants Committee of Hong Kong. At SUNY Albany, she has served in many different roles at different levels. Since 2006, she has been the Director of Geography undergraduate program in her department.
