胡智勇于1998年和2001年获得北京大学城市与环境学系人文地理学学士学位和硕士学位，2007年获得香港大学经济地理博士学位。毕业后曾任中国科学院地理科学与资源研究所助理研究员和香港大学地理系博士后研究员，自2012年后进入香港教育大学（原香港教育学院）任教，从事发展研究、城市化、区域发展与规划、城市发展政策等相关的课程教学工作。

Dr. Hu received his Ph.D. in economic geography (2007) from the University of Hong Kong, China, as well as his bachelor and master degrees in human geography (1998 and 2001 respectively) from Peking University, China. He once worked as assistant professor at Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Science and as postdoc fellow at the University of Hong Kong. Since 2012, he has been teaching on courses in development studies, urbanization, regional development and planning as well as urban policy at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Education University of Hong Kong (formerly Hong Kong Institute of Education).

主要研究领域包括转型经济的企业组织与区域环境、区域发展的地理政治经济学、城市产业与空间重构、土地城市化、城市更新与住房政策等。最近的研究项目涉及城市内部收入差距、住房与创业以及城市更新的制度创新。他的研究获得香港研究资助局、国家自然科学基金委、北大-林肯研究院、中国城市研究网络等机构的资助，相关研究成果发表在在Urban Studies, Regional Studies, Environment and Planning A, Environment and Planning C, Geoforum, Cities, Applied Geography, Land use Policy, Public Administration and Development, Area Development and Policy, 地理学报, 地理研究等国内外学术期刊。 他曾获得香港教育大学博文及社会科学学院优秀研究成果奖（2016年）、香港大学文学院杰出博士论文奖（2007年）和美国地理学会中国地理专业组学生论文竞赛奖（2004年）。目前担任香港岭南大学城市与管治硕士课程咨询委员会委员，为二十余个城市、住房、地理、公共政策、发展研究等领域的英文学术期刊担任审稿人

His research interests include firm-region nexus in transitional economy, regional development and geographical political economy, urban economic and spatial restructuring, landed urbanization, urban redevelopment and housing policy. His recent projects include urban inequality, housing and entrepreneurship, as well as policy innovation in urban redevelopment. His research has been funded by Hong Kong Research Grant Council (RGC), National Natural Science foundation of China, The Peking University-Lincoln Institute Center for Urban Development and Land Policy, and Urban China Research Network. His publications appear in both English peer-reviewed journals, including Urban Studies, Regional Studies, Environment and Planning A, Environment and Planning C, Geoforum, Cities, Applied Geography, Land use Policy, Public Administration and Development, Area Development and Policy, and Chinese academic journals including Acta Geographical Sinica and Geographical Research. Dr. Hu received research output prize in 2016 from the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, The Education University of Hong Kong, outstanding Ph.D. Thesis award in 2007 from the Faculty of Arts, The University of Hong Kong, and student paper competition award in 2004 from China Specialty Group of the Association of American Geographers. He is now the member of the Advisory Board for Master of Cities and Governance, Lingnan University and serves as the reviewers for more than 20 internationally referred journals in geography, urban studies, housing studies, public policy and development studies.
