IACP is committed to support career development of young scholars in China and provide a forum for continuous dialogue and exchanges for scholars around the world. We are pleased to announce that, in collaboration with our local host, IACP is organizing a series of career development events, including three special roundtables and one special roundtable with journal editors.
The three career development roundtables are designed to facilitate:
Career Development Roundtable I: Women in Academia
Date and Time: July 6 13:00 – 14:30

Objective:
This roundtable aims to address the unique challenges and opportunities faced by women in academia. By fostering an environment of support and guidance, the event seeks to empower female scholars through shared experiences, strategies for advancement, and networking.

Join a vibrant roundtable discussion featuring leading female academics from various disciplines. This session is designed for women at all stages of their academic careers, from graduate students to senior professors. The discussion will focus on navigating the academic landscape as a woman, overcoming gender-specific challenges, and strategies for success in teaching, research, and leadership.
Format:
- Introduction (5 minutes): Overview of the event’s goals and introduction of panelists.
- Panel Discussion (45 minutes): Panelists will share their personal and professional experiences regarding career progression, work-life balance, and effective strategies for overcoming systemic barriers in academia.
- Interactive Q&A Session (30 minutes): Attendees are encouraged to engage with the panelists, ask questions, and discuss solutions to common challenges.
- Networking and Mentorship (10 minutes): The event will conclude with a networking session, providing an opportunity for attendees to connect with mentors and collaborators.

- Overcoming Gender Bias and Discrimination: Addressing issues of implicit bias, gender discrimination, and strategies for handling harassment and inequity in the workplace.
- Navigating the Tenure Track: Strategies for success in meeting tenure requirements, balancing research, teaching, and service, and understanding the unspoken rules of academia.
- Developing Leadership Skills: Understanding leadership roles within academia, developing essential leadership skills, and navigating the dynamics of leadership as a woman.
- Important Agendas for Women in Academia: Discussing other important agendas and actions we should take to supports women in academia.
Career Development Roundtable II: Young Scholars in China

This session aims to provide a forum to junior scholars to better understand the aims and scope of major journals in urban planning, urban studies, and governance, journal article submission process from editors’ perspectives, and tips for academic writing with Chinese and English.
