SDG Cities, as a global initiative, aims to unleash the potential of cities in accelerating sustainable development and improving well-being for all. It identifies the means through which sustainable development can be achieved, including the role of urban planning, urban governance, and collaboration among government, planners, communities and other stakeholders.

The remarkable urbanization and modernization accomplished in China over the last four decades have garnered global attention. However, rapid and extensive construction has given rise to a range of urban issues, notably hampering resident’s quality of life and the sustainability of urban development. The promotion of high-quality, sustainable development in Chinese cities through planning and governance has emerged as a critical concern in both academic discourse and practical applications.

Under the framework of people-centered urbanization, the paradigm of urban development in China is shifting from expansive growth to quality enhancement. Uurban planning in China is also evolving towards a more governance-oriented approach. Simultaneously, scholars from both China and Western countries express a particular interest in the new paradigm of Chinese urban development. Their focus centers on institutional innovations within the planning and governance system, entailing extensive discussions on SDG-related topics such as urban and rural regional coordination, environmental resource protection, optimized transportation patterns, housing security, and community development.

The central theme of this annual conference is ‘Planning and Governance at Crossroads for SDG Cities’. We sincerely invite scholars, planners, engineers, and government administrators from China and around the world to participate in this conference, engage in broad discussions on planning theories and practical issues that help drive sustainable urban development, and share planning research and practices in diverse fields such as urban economy, culture, society, and ecology.

The conference tracks include:

Sustainable Development Goals and Actions in Urban China

Spatial Planning System and Territorial Spatial Planning

Urban and Rural Integration and Regional Coordination

Participatory Planning and Collaborative Governance

Urbanization and Municipal Finance

Housing, Community Development, and Neighborhood Governance

Environmental Planning and Governance

Transportation and Infrastructure Planning

Planning for Healthy Cities

Smart City and New Technologies in Planning

Migration, demographic shift and Inclusive Cities

Urban regeneration and urban renewal actions

Historical and Cultural Preservation

Urban Design and Landscape Planning

Others

Abstract Submission

Please submit your paper abstract of 200-300 words, in English only* by February 2, 2024.
