This is a pre-conference event of the 18th IACP Annual Conference, to be held on July 5-8, 2024, hosted by the School of <span style=\"color: #222222;\">Public Affairs<\/span>, Zhejiang University.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">We seek to assist early-career Chinese scholars in urban planning, urban governance, and related fields to enhance their academic writing skills for scholarly publications. The workshop will be held in person, featuring whole-group seminar sessions on academic writing, publication, and career development strategies. The intended cohort size is 25-30 participants, depending on the quality of applications.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">We welcome applications from untenured assistant or associate professors, and post-doctoral research fellows, who are currently employed in departments\/institutes of urban planning, urban geography, public policy with a specialty in urban affairs, and similar fields. Doctoral candidates who expect to graduate by December 2024 may also apply, but the applications need to include a supporting letter from their Ph.D. advisors.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Priority will be given to junior urban scholars who<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Currently work or study in an Asian* university or research institute,<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Received their doctoral degrees within five years (2019-2023),<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Registered as a valid member of IACP before February 2024.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">*Early-career Chinese scholars based outside of Asia, whose research is centered on urban issues in China, are also encouraged to apply. The file name for the recommendation letter should be labeled with \u201c<strong>Last Name-First Name-recommendation<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>We will notify successful applicants by <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>February 29, 2024 (Extended)<\/strong><\/span>, and provide more detailed information about the workshop at that time.<\/p>\n<p>Selected participants must submit an article-length paper, about 25-30 double-spaced pages, by <strong>April 22<\/strong>, 2024, for a mock peer review process by 2-3 referees prior to the workshop. The reviews and feedback from faculty and other workshop participants will help form the basis for small-group discussions during the workshop.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Fees and Costs<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The workshop will charge NO application fee. However, each <em>accepted <\/em>participant will need to register and pay a nominal registration fee (<strong>200 US dollars<\/strong>) via Paypal to the IACP account by <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">March 25<\/span>, 2024<\/strong>. <strong>Doctoral students, if accepted, are exempt from paying the registration fee.<\/strong> The registration fees will cover part of the workshop organization costs and honorariums paid to invited editors. IACP is a non-profit academic organization and does not make any profit from organizing the workshop.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The registration fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.
