He also held a Master\u2019s degree in Cartography and Remote Sensing and a BS in Geology from Peking University.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong><b>Research<\/b><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Prof. Pan&#8217;s research focuses on multiple aspects of urban planning, including urban and regional planning models, transportation planning, economic impact analysis, and the applications of GIS in urban planning. He received research grants from Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) to measure access to public transit services and to examine port-related traffic and emissions. He also studied on the economic impacts of terrorist attacks on Central Business Districts and infrastructures in large metropolitan areas. He received the Natural Resources Imagery Grant from ESRI to utilize SAR imagery technology in pipeline integrity management. Prof. Pan has also consulted in multiple research projects from National Science Foundation, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Transportation, California Cut Flower Commission, Renovate America, and RAND Corporation, etc. Currently he is working on a project from Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation to examine agglomeration impacts on entrepreneurial ecosystems.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong><b>Professional Activities<\/b><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Prof. Pan is a founding member of the first urban planning department in Houston, the fourth largest city in the US. He has served as the UPEP department chair since 2008. He also led the program to gain the initial accreditation in 2009 and a seven-year re-accreditation (the longest period allowable) from Planning Accreditation Board (PAB) in 2011.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong><b>With IACP<\/b><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Prof. Pan was among the first group of members that called for the establishment of International Association for China Planning (IACP) at the 2005 ACSP Conference in Kansas City. Prof. Pan served as the IACP Board Chair in 2013-2015 and presided the 8<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0IACP annual conference at South China University of Technology (SCUT) in June 2014 and the 9<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0IACP annual conference at Chongqing University (CQU) in June 2015, respectively. Prof. Pan also chaired the IACP conference in Wuhan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University as the Vice Chair of the IACP Board of Directors (BOD) in 2011-2013.
