He holds a Bachelor\u2019s degree with double majors in Urban Planning and Law (2001) as well as a Master degree in Regional Economics (2004) from Wuhan University. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Urban Studies from the Portland State University in 2010.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><strong><b>Research Area<\/b><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Dr. Dong\u2019s research lies at the intersection of three areas: 1) integrated land use and transportation, particularly the impacts of rail transit and zoning on property value and land development in rail transit station areas; 2) housing and real estate development, particularly how land use regulations and development forms influence housing affordability and equity; and 3) healthy and happy cities, particularly how neighborhood physical and social environments affect residents\u2019 mental wellbeing and happiness. The results of his studies appear in top-notch peer-reviewed journals such as <em>Journal of the American Planning Association<\/em>, <em>Journal of Planning Education and Research<\/em>, <em>Urban Studies<\/em>, <em>Urban Geography<\/em>, <em>Housing Policy Debate<\/em>, <em>Journal of Urban Design<\/em>, <em>International Journal of Sustainable Transportation<\/em>, <em>Transportation Research Record<\/em>, <em>City Planning Review<\/em> (in Chinese), and <em>Urban Planning International<\/em> (in Chinese). His manuscript on the roles of land use regulations and urban form in the 2008 housing recession won him a manuscript award by the American Real Estate Society (housing category). He was a short-term consultant for the World Bank (Beijing office) for providing expert advice in TOD design of High-Speed Rail Stations in China.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><b>With IACP<\/b><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Dr. Dong has been an active IACP member in the past few years.
