The Journal of Planning Education and Research (JPER) is seeking two enthusiastic and dedicated Early Career Editors to join our editorial team, starting December 1, 2025. This role is designed for emerging planning scholars who seek to gain experience in the editorial processes of academic publishing. The successful candidate will work closely with the Editors-in-Chief (EICs), the Managing Editor, and the Associate Editors (AEs) to facilitate the peer review process and contribute to the myriad activities of the journal.
The positions will be reviewed annually with the potential for progression into an Associate Editor role.
Responsibilities
- Work with the editorial team to manage peer review timelines.
- Build and maintain systems to identify and recognize JPER reviewers.
- Assist with JPER activities, including but not limited to, JPER Writing Workshop for New Scholars, reports to ACSP and other stakeholders, editorial board meetings, and other journal events.
- Other responsibilities related to promoting and advancing JPER.
Qualifications
- A Ph.D. degree in Urban Planning or a very closely related field, received after July 1, 2020.
- Affiliation with an ACSP member school.
- A strong record of scholarly publications.
- Demonstrated interest in academic publishing and editorial processes.
- Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse editors, authors, and reviewers.
- Commitment to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and publishing ethics.
