IACP Faculty Highlights: Dr. Yushu Zhu

朱宇姝博士现任加拿大西门菲莎大学（SFU）城市研究与公共政策副教授，并担任城市研究系的研究生项目主任。她毕业于中国中山大学人文地理专业，并获得了美国伊利诺伊大学香槟分校（UIUC）的建筑学博士学位。博士毕业后，朱博士先后在布朗大学的“社会科学空间结构（S4）”项目以及加拿大英属哥伦比亚大学（UBC）的亚洲研究院从事博士后研究。在加入西门菲莎大学之前，她还曾就职于加拿大亚太基金会——该基金会是加拿大亚太关系领域的前沿研究机构。

Dr. Yushu Zhu is an Associate Professor of Urban Studies and Public Policy at Simon Fraser University (SFU), Canada. Dr. Zhu was trained as a human geographer at Sun Yat-Sen University in China and earned a Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign. Following her Ph.D., Dr. Zhu held post-doc positions in the Spatial Structures in the Social Sciences (S4) program at Brown University and at the Institute of Asian Research at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada. Before joining SFU, she also worked at the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, Canada’s leading research institute on Canada-Asia relations.

朱宇姝博士结合跨学科视角与混合研究方法，聚焦探讨中国与加拿大两国的住房与社区问题，进而剖析社会不平等、城市（再）发展、公民参与及公共政策等核心议题。具体而言，她致力于揭示国家、市场与公民社会在(再)制造城市社会空间不公中所扮演的角色；同时，她也特别关注弱势与追求权益的群体，研究住房如何塑造社会关系、居民健康与福祉。朱博士先后主持与参与了多项由加拿大社会科学与人文研究委员会(SSHRC)、加拿大住房抵押贷款公司、以及林肯土地政策研究院资助的国际与国内合作项目。这些前沿课题横跨住房保障、气候变化、在地安老（Age in Place）以及城市治理等多元领域。她的学术成果广泛发表于地理学、城市研究、社会学及公共卫生等领域的国际顶尖学术期刊。这些学术贡献为其获得了西门菲莎大学颁发的 2025年度优秀研究奖 (Research Excellence Award).

Dr. Yushu Zhu critically engages interdisciplinary perspectives and mixed methods to examine housing and community issues in both China and Canada as it relates to social inequality, urban (re)development, civic engagement and public policy. Specifically, she seeks to understand the roles of the state, market, and civil society in (re)producing socio-spatial injustice in cities, as well as the roles of housing in shaping social relations, health and wellbeing, with a particular attention to equity-seeking population groups. Dr. Zhu is a recipient of multiple grants from Canada’s Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, and the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, including several international and domestic collaborative projects that cut across the areas of housing, climate change, age in place, and urban governance. Her work has been published in prominent academic outlets across the fields of Geography, Urban Studies, Sociology, and Public Health, and has earned her the 2025 Research Excellence Award from SFU.

朱博士于2026年加入IACP，并参加了今年在西安举办的国际年会。在年会上，她除了报告她关于中国村级工业园改造治理的最新研究成果，还担任了“青年学者写作工作坊”的特邀嘉宾，参与了小组讨论指导工作，和青年学者深度交流。作为一名研究横跨两国的城市学者，朱博士有效连接了中国与加拿大两国的规划研究与实践的交流与合作网络。她非常期待通过 IACP 进一步深化两国学者的联系，开拓新的合作，并为 IACP 未来的工作做出积极贡献。

Dr. Zhu joined IACP in 2026 and attended the IACP international conference in Xi’an. During the conference, in addition to presenting her recent research on the governance of village-level industrial park renewal in China, she served as an invited discussant at the Writing Workshop for Junior Scholars, where she shared her research experience and offered guidance to participants. As an urban scholar spanning two countries, Dr. Zhu bridges the intellectual and professional networks of urban studies and planning in China and Canada. She is eager to deepen these global ties through IACP, build fresh collaborations, and actively contribute to its future initiatives.
