You are cordially invited to submit abstracts to the 18th International Association for China Planning (IACP) Conference, July 5-8, 2024, in Hangzhou, China.
Conference Theme:
The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted global progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), challenging us to rethink cities as the key driver for positive change. SDG Cities, as a global initiative, aims to unleash the potential of cities in accelerating sustainable development and improving well-being for all. It identifies the means through which sustainable development can be achieved, including the role of urban planning, urban governance, and collaboration among government, planners, communities, and other stakeholders.
The remarkable urbanization and modernization accomplished in China over the last four decades have garnered global attention. However, rapid and extensive construction has given rise to a range of urban issues, notably hampering residents’ quality of life and the sustainability of cities and rural areas. The promotion of high-quality, sustainable development in Chinese cities through planning and governance has emerged as a critical concern in both academic discourse and practical paradigms.
Within the framework of human-centered urbanization, the course of urban development in China is gradually shifting from expansive growth to quality enhancement. Urban planning in China has evolved toward a more governance-oriented approach. Both domestic and international scholars are concerned with the new directions of China’s urbanization. They focus on various facets related to achieving SDG cities, including institutional innovations within the planning and governance system, urban and rural integration, cross-boundary coordination, environmental protection and resource conservation, transportation system optimization, affordable housing, and community development.
The central theme of this annual conference is ‘Planning and Governance at Crossroads for SDG Cities’. We sincerely invite scholars, practitioners, and government administrators from China and around the world to participate in this conference and engage in broad discussions on planning theories and practical experience that help drive sustainable urban development from diverse fields.
Conference Format: The conference will be held in-person ONLY, in the School of Public Affairs, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China.
